WordPress Tips and Tricks

There is hundreds of great plugins available for a free download which can extend the functionality of your WordPress. The easiest way to install plugins is by searching for a specific plugin or keywords in Plugin section of your Dashboard – Add New. Choose the plugin you want to use and click Install and then activate plugin.

Akismet plugin was mentioned in the previous post, as this plug in is automatically added when you install WordPress.

All in One SEO Pack

Nearly everyone that has got a website or a blog is concerned about Search Engine Optimisation (SEO). One SEO automatically optimises your WordPress blog for Search Engines. All you need to do is fill in the title, description and keywords. You will get a box to fill this in for each post/page.

Google XML Sitemaps

This plugin lets you create a Google compliant site map of your entire website/blog. Every time you create a new page or post, the site map is updated and submitted to several major search engines, including Google, Yahoo,… so it appears in the search engines faster than it would if you didn’t have a site map. After adding this plugin, go to Settings and choose XML Sitemap. Click on “Rebuild Sitemap” to create your sitemap the first time.

WP Super Cache

This plugin is great for two reasons.  First, it makes your pages load way faster.  Second, since it stores static versions of your site, it requires much less CPU processing than using WordPress all by itself.

WordPress Database Backup

This plugin is a life saver when things go wrong! It allows on-demand backup of your WordPress database.

SEO Smart Links

It provides automatic SEO benefits for your site in addition to custom keyword lists, nofollow and much more. SEO Smart Links can automatically link keywords and phrases in your posts and comments with corresponding posts, pages, categories and tags on your blog.

MaxBlogPress Ping Optimizer

Prevents from alerting search engines every time I update a page or post. Without this plugin, you run the risk of search engines thinking you’re a spammer. Permalinks Moved Permanently

This would have meant that all of the links to my posts would generate 404 errors.  This plugin just forwards all the links and PR to the new addresses.
